Martina and Uwe Hesse moved from the Sauerland to Hamburg in 1974. After having been employed in their original occupations for 10 years, they decided to turn their shared hobby model trains into a profession. They ventured on self-employment and founded
"Modellbahnen Uwe Hesse" at the Landwehr on July 7th, 1984
Featuring a wide range of goods, including also numerous small series suppliers, offering special services as are conversions with Faulhaber motors, the turning of wheel rims to RP25 dimensions or equipping freight wagons, this venture soon became a great success.
1997 was a major turning point: Uwe Hesse passed away on October 1st and Mrs. Hesse took over executive responsibility.
Martina Hesse proved right from the beginning that she, being a woman, was absolutely able to stand her ground in this traditional male domain.
Being a model railroader since childhood, I, Christian Sube, had already been a longtime customer, when I paid a visit to the specialised shop again in February 2010. A pile of packages from suppliers waiting to be unpacked caught my eye, and I learned that Mrs. Hesse was looking for a temporary help, a maid-for-all-work. Or, putting it in her usual humorous way, she wanted some "little" helpers from the Far East… A few days later, I started my career at Modellbahnen Uwe Hesse.
On June 1st, 2021, Mrs. Hesse took leave into her well-deserved retirement. As the new owner of Modellbahnen Uwe Hesse, I am proud to continue the model train tradition at the Landwehr as an on site full-range supplier. In addition to independent advice and a wide range of products, repairs, modifications and provisioning of special items and spare parts are an important part of our service. We are also experts in the digital model railroad world and are happy to share our knowledge, from supporting a swift start/restructuring to developing individual solutions for detail problems. Do not hesitate to challenge us! Our team of committed and competent employees is happy to support you every day.
